Have you ever wished you could reserve your therapist for the whole day?

You want to make real progress and are willing to do the work, but you aren’t seeing the kind of results you’re looking for in traditional weekly therapy. You might leave your therapy sessions feeling frustrated that your progress is too slow, or like the appointment ends right when you started to make important connections.

An EMDR intensive could be the solution to this problem.

Intensive therapy is a specialized service that provides extended session times to complete the work you can’t get to in a typical weekly session. If you’re looking for a more specialized approach to healing your past emotional wounds, an EMDR intensive might be the right for you.

EMDR intensives can help you accomplish in one session what may take months in traditional therapy.

What is an intensive?

An EMDR Intensive is an extended therapy session typically 3-4 hours long, spanning 1-3 days. It is an immersive therapeutic experience designed to address the changes you are most motivated make. It is an ideal experience if you’re looking to make significant and more rapid progress in your therapeutic journey.

How does an intensive work?

1

Free 20 minute Intensive Consultation

Contact us to arrange a free intensive consultation when we can discuss your goals for an intensive experience, answer any questions you have about how EMDR intensives work, and develop a proposal for an intensive design that best suits your needs.

You will also receive a customized EMDR Intensive workbook for you to complete prior to your first session.

2

90 Minute Pre Intensive Interview

Approximately two weeks before your intensive begins, we will meet for an extended interview. During this session we will review the assessments and other preparation materials you completed in your EMDR workbook.

We will review resources and coping skills for you to practice, and finalize the list of memories or experiences you wish to target during your intensive session(s).

3

1-3 day Intensive Sessions

Your EMDR Intensive begins! This will be a significant step in the direction of change you’re hoping to make. Depending on your goals and specific circumstances, one intensive session is not always sufficient.

After we complete your intensive sessions, you will gain a better understanding of what additional help, if any, you may need in the future.

4

60 Minute Post Intensive Follow Up

2-3 weeks after the completion of your EMDR Intensive experience, we will meet for a single session to review your progress.

We will discuss which of your symptoms have improved and what, if anything, needs additional work. You will also receive specific recommendations for follow up care.

What you get in an EMDR intensive:

  • Evidenced-based treatment

  • Customized intensive prep workbook

  • A treatment plan tailored specifically to you

 Imagine finally getting to…

✓ Resolve the pain that’s harming your self-esteem

Self-esteem largely develops in our childhood and adolescence, and if you did not grow up feeling fully supported or cherished, it’s likely you became an adult who struggles with poor confidence and a lack of self-esteem. EMDR can repair the wounds associated with those difficult past experiences and provide an opportunity for you to develop the self-assurance you’re looking for.

✓ Get relief from nightmares, panic attacks, and feelings of fear

When you struggle with traumatic experiences or PTSD, symptoms like panic attacks and nightmares can be a weekly, if not daily occurrence. Not to mention the pervasive feeling of fear that follows you throughout your daily life. Most people who have experienced trauma live in a near-constant state of anxiety. This constant feeling of anxiety leads to irritability and frustration that’s often taken out accidentally on others. EMDR can relieve the pervasive feelings of fear or anxiety and help stop symptoms like panic attacks or nightmares.

✓ Overcome the obstacles that are keeping you from living the life you want

What would you do if you didn’t feel anxious? If you didn’t have to worry about panic attacks, nightmares, or your emotions spinning out of control? For many, the answer is that they would engage in their lives more fully than they ever have before. They would explore their interests, hobbies, and passions. They would take risks and pursue their goals because they are no longer held back by fear. Allow yourself to imagine what could be different in your life if EMDR were able to relieve your feelings of fear and anxiety.

 Intensive FAQ

  • Intensives allow for significantly more processing time than a typical therapy session would allow. In a typical weekly session of EMDR, the first 10-15 minutes of your appointment are spent catching up and discussing what you want to work on for the day. Which allows only 20-30 minutes of actual EMDR work to occur before your therapist has to wrap up the session.

An intensive allows for a full 3 hours of EMDR work, which could takes months in weekly therapy.

  • EMDR intensives are an ideal fit for anyone with past traumatic experiences, including complex family experiences from childhood, that are still impacting them today. If you struggle with constant feelings of anxiety, fear, irritability, or panic, then it’s possible some of your past experiences are having a negative impact on you today.

  • EMDR intensives are ideal for people who know that they experienced traumatic events that cause feelings of distress in their day-to-day lives.

EMDR intensives are not ideal for people who have never had traumatic or highly distressing experiences, or who are uninterested in processing past events that cause them distress in the present day.
