What Is Intensive Therapy for OCD?
OCD intensive therapy is an accelerated form of OCD treatment designed for people who are motivated to make progress more quickly than they could in weekly therapy.
What happens during an OCD intensive?
An OCD intensive is essentially a long therapy session. In weekly therapy for OCD, we would usually spend 1-2 sessions discussing your symptoms and designing your treatment plan, 1-2 sessions to introduce the treatment and practice utilizing coping skills, and then proceed with setting new goals for each session until you’re satisfied with your progress. This could take anywhere from a few months to a year.
In an OCD intensive, however, a lot of this process could be accomplished in a week’s time. By meeting with your therapist for 3+ hours per day, several days in a row, you could easily condense months of therapy into less than a week of time.
Are OCD intensives an effective method of treatment?
Yes! The concept of intensive therapy has been used for many years. Until recently, you could typically only get it by enrolling in a large group program at a dedicated treatment center. There are only 3-4 dedicated treatment centers for OCD in the entire country, meaning you would likely have to travel away from home to attend such a program. Additionally, these programs do not always accept insurance and can cost thousands of dollars per day.
When you complete an OCD intensive with us, you get a treatment program designed just for you to be completed in the privacy of your own home. It doesn’t require you to take weeks off of work, and it’s far more affordable than paying out of pocket to enroll in a treatment center.
Will an intensive help with my type of OCD?
That’s a great question! Intensives can be an effective solution for many different types of OCD, including contamination OCD, harm OCD, sexual orientation OCD, and many more. Intensives are a great option for anyone who spends too much time on compulsive rituals, such as checking behaviors, cleaning, or reassurance seeking.
